How To Disable Cortana Permanently in Windows 10

If you are not using cortana then you can disable it permanently to improve the performance of your windows 10.

You can turn off Cortana temporarily by going into the settings and then turn off all the options.

To turn off Cortana permanently follow these steps-

1. Right-click the start menu and open the Run dialog box.
2. Type there “regedit” and open the registry editor.
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindows

And highlight the Windows registry key then right-click on blank space on the right-hand side and create a new Key.

Name this key as “Windows Search”.
After creating the key highlight it and right-click on the blank space and create new DWORD(32-bit) value.

After creating the new key and double click on it and assign a value of 0 and hit OK.

Now restart your computer and Cortana would be disabled.

If you want to enable Cortana again then assign a value of 1 or delete the created key.

Above method works till the latest update of Windows 10 that is Windows 10 1903.

Does Not Work. All the websites and YouTube sites say the same thing, it does not work. Cortana is still running when you look at Task Manager.

Like always 👎, the steps don't ever align, the window pages never state what the You Tuber is saying, I never ever ever ever ever ever see what is shown 👎. It's like I live in some broken sick twisted version of The Matrix. What is there….32,000 versions of Windows 10? Not a single menu, option, screen or function is like what he's showing.

In step 2:09 i accidentally clicked in New> Key again, creating another "Newkey" folder inside "Windows Search" ( with empty values) and then corrected ; with "Windows Search" Highlighted again, and created New> DWORD (32-bit) Value, following the tutorial normally BUT, I FORGOT to delete that wrongly created key folder inside/below "Windows Search". I then restarted my PC, and it >hesitated< a lot in starting windows up again, i thought i lost windows installation for good, it even started auto correction options after a second try to button-reset. It finnaly after that, started normaly and then i opened the registry again and finnally deleted that creepy aditional empty key. Does it all relate to this additional problem i had?! Can empty random newkey values mess up with windows start up like that , or was it a coincidence?
This is the second time i try this, i made it normally with a notebook i also have, with no problems and no stupid mistakes of mine. But this Desktop apparently is normal again, good video.

With that DWORD 32-bit he created and set the value to 0, is it possible to do similar things in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to disable other annoying non-essential background processes (that cannot easily be ended on task manager)?

Did all this, and Cortana still sits in task manager using 35% of my CPU. Been looking for hours – can't find any info on how to disable it.
God I hate Microsoft so much

You cant really permanently disable cortana. Its built into windows witch means you cant really disable it you can only disable it from doing tasks. It will always be running in the background even if you disable it from running it will just come back.
